    This spring, MAWCA will hold a special election for the newly open position of Vice-President on the MAWCA Executive Board. Members of the Executive Board must be directors, staff members of writing centers, or those involved with writing centers. Board members should commit to being available for two face-to-face meetings per year: a September retreat and the Board meeting at the spring conference.  The deadline to nominate a candidate is Friday, April 6, 2018.

    Please consider running for a position or nominating a colleague. Serving on the board is a great way to promote the work of writing centers, meet writing center colleagues throughout the region, and gain professional development. Click here to read a few testimonials from current MAWCA board members.

    The open position is:

    Vice-President
     Two-year term, then succession to the presidency
    The vice-president will:
    • work closely with the president;
    • assume the duties of the president in the president's absence and undertake such responsibilities as delegated by the president;
    • assume the office of president after vice-presidential term.

    How do I nominate a colleague?

    Before the April 6 deadline, email Jen Callaghan (jcallaghan.brynmawr.edu) the name and email address of the person you would like to nominate. We will take care of the rest.

    How do I self-nominate?

    Self-nominating is very common, and we encourage it, so don’t be shy. Please read these bio guidelines and write a brief bio as instructed. Email this bio, and a statement of self-nomination, to jcallaghan@brynmawr.edu by the April 6 deadline.

    IWCA is now accepting registration for its 2018 Collaborative!

    This is an online event that will be held Monday, March 12 from 12:00 PM-8:30 PM ESTRegistration ($30) is limited, so register now!

    The theme for this year’s Collaborative is “Stories from the Center: Activism, Outreach, and Research.”

    The Online Collaborative’s agenda is already set (i.e., no CFP) and will be a day with featured leaders and future leaders in our field: Neisha-Anne Green, Romeo Garcia, Talisha Haltiwanger Morrison, Katie Levin, Robert Mundy, Adrian Russell, Lori Salem, Wonderful Faison, Trixie Smith, Jasmine Kar Tang, Keli Tucker, and Travis Webster.

    When Missouri passed a law making it more difficult to sue for discrimination - in essence, sending the message that discrimination is legal - it prompted practitioners in composition and the writing center field to reexamine the conference location as well as ask important questions about privilege, discrimination, and justice. When the NAACP instituted a Travel Advisory to Missouri and the statement released by the Caucuses regarding the conference, IWCA members voted and decided to move the Collaborative online in order to include as many people as possible, including those who are attending the conference, those unable to attend, and those who decided not to attend.

    A flyer for the event can be found here:
