POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Class of 1963 Center for Academic Excellence invites applications for a Writing Center Tutor.  As a member of this academic support unit, the tutor will provide one-on-one assistance to students at any stage of the writing process from brainstorming to the final draft. The tutor will be on an intermittent work schedule of 8-15 daytime hours per week in our bustling Writing Center. Along with tutoring, other duties include maintaining appropriate student records, submitting reports and data as requested, attending meetings, and completing training sessions as required. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • A master's degree is required in one or more of the following areas: rhetoric, composition, literature, and/or English education.
  • Experience tutoring writing.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
  • Must be available for at least 8 – 15 daytime hours per week.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred:

  • The ideal candidate would have at least two years of experience tutoring in a writing center setting.
  • Teaching experience in developmental and first-year English composition courses is preferred.
