This spring, MAWCA will hold a special election for the newly open position of Vice-President on the MAWCA Executive Board. Members of the Executive Board must be directors, staff members of writing centers, or those involved with writing centers. Board members should commit to being available for two face-to-face meetings per year: a September retreat and the Board meeting at the spring conference. The deadline to nominate a candidate is Friday, April 6, 2018.

Please consider running for a position or nominating a colleague. Serving on the board is a great way to promote the work of writing centers, meet writing center colleagues throughout the region, and gain professional development. Click here to read a few testimonials from current MAWCA board members.

The open position is:

Vice-President

Two-year term, then succession to the presidency

        The vice-president will:

work closely with the president;

assume the duties of the president in the president's absence and undertake such responsibilities as delegated by the president;

assume the office of president after vice-presidential term.

How do I nominate a colleague?

Before the April 6 deadline, email Jen Callaghan (jcallaghan.brynmawr.edu) the name and email address of the person you would like to nominate. We will take care of the rest.

How do I self-nominate?

Self-nominating is very common, and we encourage it, so don’t be shy. Please read these bio guidelines and write a brief bio as instructed. Email this bio, and a statement of self-nomination, to jcallaghan@brynmawr.edu by the April 6 deadline.

Find Your Colleagues on the Member Portal

Until now, the only way for MAWCA members to communicate with each other was face-to-face at our conference and regional meetings. Otherwise, communication had to originate centrally, for instance from our listserve.

We will continue to send out a monthly e-mail newsletter. And we will continue to hold face-to-face meetings.

But now each member can use the Member Directory (hover over the Members link above) to find colleagues. For instance, you can search for colleagues who work in the same setting. Or you can search for colleagues in your city or state. You can email your colleagues through the portal, though member emails are kept private.

Please send us your feedback if there is a member search feature you would like to see. In the early stages, it's also reasonable for us to add fields to our data collection. Is there something you would like to know about your colleagues? We added data collection on roles and settings. What else would be helpful to you? Contact Margaret Ervin mervin@wcupa.edu if you have suggestions about how to improve the members section of our portal.
