Keynote: Brian Fallon, Ph. D. - FIT, New York
Brian is the founding director of FIT's writing and communication center program, the Writing & Speaking Studio. He has taught developmental writing, college writing, creative non-fiction, and research courses for a number of FIT departments including Educational Skills, English and Communication Studies, Social Sciences, and the Sustainable Interior Environments Graduate Program. His scholarly work focuses on peer tutors' experiences as learners and teachers and the social and political dynamics of peer tutoring in writing.
Brian served as co-chair of the International Writing Centers Association/National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing 2014 joint conference held at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. He led efforts to establish the National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing as a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and financially supporting peer tutor scholarship. Brian was a leader at the 2012 and 2013 International Writing Center Association (IWCA) Summer Institute for Writing Center Directors and Professionals and has been invited to speak on writing center work at a number of events and campuses in the NYC area and across the country. He co-edited Multimodal Composing: Strategies for 21st Writing Center Work, a writing center staff education collection, with Lindsay A. Sabatino. Brian is a co-winner of the 2007 IWCA scholarship award for an outstanding article and was the 2010 recipient of the Ron Maxwell Award for distinguished leadership in promoting the collaborative learning practices of peer tutors in writing. He is also a 2017 recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.
