Synergy, Innovation, & the Writing Center
Collaboration. It may just be the most influential concept for writing center work. Administrators assign readings with it in the title; tutors use it to describe their sessions; faculty (if we do our job well) understand it to be the foundational principle behind student/tutor interactions. Collaboration is the cement that holds the whole structure together. It is powerful. But we wonder, have we become so comfortable and familiar with the term that it has lost some of its resonance?
For MAWCA 2016, we would like to breathe new life into the concept of collaboration by exploring how the collaborative nature of writing center work is also synergistic and innovative. Certainly, we’d like to explore the synergy and innovation happening in the writing center and extending out from the writing center; moreover, we’d like also to probe what we might learn from disciplines, industry, and the broader community outside of the writing center.
MAWCA 2016 will be held at Drexel University located in West Philadelphia, walking distance from 30th Street Station and minutes away from Center City Philadelphia. The Drexel Writing Center (DWC) is part of the English & Philosophy Department in the College of Arts and Sciences (CoAS). Conference events will largely be held in the heart of CoAS in MacAlister Hall and the Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building at 33rd and Market Streets.
